TULIP: The Ultimate Laser Protocol

February 3, 2016 Posted by lostfalco@gmail.com 39 Comments

Note: Don’t forget to check out my post on the incredible benefits of intranasal insulin and how to buy it legally over the counter without a prescription for $25 and try it at home today! It enhances mood, memory, and brain energy levels without affecting blood glucose or insulin levels (as attested by 30+ human studies) AND combines extremely well with TULIP. The Benefits of Intranasal Insulin

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY + PQQ + UBIQUINOL

“Took 10mg PQQ today, along with 100mg CoQ10 and the laser treatment at the frontal and parietal lobes. This clarity of mind and thought is incredible…This is what I’ve been looking for.”

-OpaqueMind

What Is TULIP?

TULIP = T.U.L.P. = The Ultimate Laser Protocol = Laser + PQQ+ CoQ10 aka Ubiquinol = Enhanced Mitochondria and ATP = Transformed Life

LLLT = Low Level Laser Therapy or Low Level Light Therapy

1. Laser (LLLT/Photobiomodulation): more efficient ATP production, neurogenesis, extended axonal branching
2. PQQ: more AND better mitochondria  PQQ
3. CoQ10: more AND better mitochondrial output  CoQ10

Why ATP?

Why ATP? It RUNS your body…esp. brain, liver, heart, kidneys (ie. important things).

Why mitochondria? You have TWO interacting genomes…mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) AND nuclear DNA (nDNA). Mitochondria (some individual cells have 1000+) provide the energy and the nucleus tells the energy where to go and what to build (the information…most of it, anyway).

How does LLLT work?

Check out these short videos.

Which Laser Devices Do You Recommend?

Devices
96 LED array: Amazon
48 LED array + adapter: Amazon

Supplements
PQQ/CoQ10/Shilajit: Amazon
PQQ: Amazon
CoQ10 and Shilajit: Amazon

Laser Dosing Recommendations:
1. Remove glass cover and place LEDs directly on skin. They get a little warm, but nothing to worry about.
2. Laser whole brain, before bed
3. Start with 30 seconds per location. You can always increase. Minimum effective dosing is VERY important with LLLT.
4. 2 days on/1 day off OR every other day. DO NOT use every day. =)
5. 850nm, 96 LED, 9 individual “regions” on sides, top, and back of head AND 850nm, 48 LED, 5 individual spots on forehead along hairline (roughly).
Total Time: 7 minutes. Try this for 1 to 2 weeks before increasing dose time. (Note: ALL is currently provisional.)

Expectations: You will be tired after the first time for 2 to 24 hours. It’s perfectly normal. You *might be slightly tired after future sessions (many aren’t) but it will be much less. Analogy: cardio, weight training. Lift, rest, eat/drink/breathe correctly, come back stronger.
Results build over time, give it a few weeks. Also, be 100% prepared to tweak. Everyone is different.
Finally, NOTHING works for everyone. This is VERY fundamental (energy enhancement, ATP production, etc.) but is not the WHOLE story. Be safe and listen to your body. I wish you the best!

I’m looking at the 48 led device. Did you have to do anything to disable the on/off light sensor? I’ll be using it on my ankle so I likely won’t be able to seal out all the light due to the irregular shape and was wondering if that will be an issue.

Do you still use your Tendlite anymore or only the panel ones now? I wonder if the more focused point source of the tendlite would be able to reach deeper than a spread out array. Similar to how a garden hose put on focused mode will penetrate deeper into the earth than the spread out shower mode.

I’m also curious if you have tried infrared flashlights. I see many 850nm flashlights for $10-40 with a respectable 3-5 watts on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ir+flashlight&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Air+flashlight

I’m thinking I could rig up a way to use the Tendlite or flashlight form factor units to be used hands free. The body should be able to fit into a microphone clip or scope mount and then that can be attached to one of those flexible tripod/snakes to point at wherever you want. That would save a ton of annoyance having to use one hand to hold it for long periods.

Brilliant results already- but they actually echo low dose methylene blue in concurrent use with PQQ and ubiquinol. On further investigation it seems that methylene blue and LLLT share a very siniliar end-game, so I was wondering if LLLT and methylene blue are interchangeable or possibly even stackable? Would love to hear your take!

Heya, was wondering as far supplementation goes, which would be best? The PQQ/CoQ10/Shilajit mix that has 10mg/100mg/100mg per pill or get the PQQ separately in 20mg/pill and the CoQ10/Silajit 200/mg/200mg mix? Also, can the 96 LED array be used in place of the 48 LED array or vice versa so only one LED array would be required(already carry enough tech when traveling ;P )

Thank you for this invaluable resource!!

I’d go with the separate 20mg PQQ combo you mentioned and, yes, either LED array can be used in place of the other.

I am using a vetrolaser and would like to know a little more about implementing it into your protocol. also I am having difficulty discerning exactly what points on the head are indicated by the table you have provided. I would really appreciate clarification of where these points are located. Also curious about your thoughts on use of the vetrolaser on the thyroid for someone with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Thank you so much for sharing your work and for being so courageous.

    Hi Lostfalco,

I purchased a Sota Lighworks. I have no idea how long I should be shining the NIR light on my head. It has a auto shutoff after 24 minutes. What do you think?

    Thanks,

hey lostfalco! Just wondering your thoughts on led LLLT (48/96 arrays from ebay, etc) and eye safety.

Do you think there is any risk of eye damage from led exposure? Sometimes I am aware of my eyes getting irradiated while using the LED on my head and temples, and have recently started getting more worried about this.

    Thanks!

Hey LostFalco, First of all great Blog! Which device are you currently using for the protocol and why? Is it the Tendlite? Do you still feel an improvement in levels of energy or do you have to keep using the laser in order to maintain your levels? Thanks for your feedback. Cheers. Dave

      Thanks Dave…I appreciate it!

I’m using both the Tendlite (mine has a 10hz pulsed setting) and the LED arrays right now for LLLT.

I’ve discovered over the years that if I take more than two weeks off I notice a difference. So, I do have to keep dosing LLLT to maintain the benefits.

Thanks for your message. I was just looking for a more convenient laser. Currently using the light relief device which just stopped working unfortunately (https://www.amazon.com/Light-Relief-Infrared-Pain-Device/dp/B000GAAANG/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1482212797&sr=8-2&keywords=light+relief).

Do you know the theory behind why the the LLTP hits a plateau after a certain time using it? I was reading this really amazing stories on your other thread on longecity on what LLTP could do for some people and wanted to dig a bit deeper on that topic.

        Thanks. Dave

          Cool.

The main reason LLLT plateaus after a certain time is that one of its main mechanisms is hormesis. This means that it causes a very small amount of stress which your body responds to by upregulating protective gene expression. While this might sound scary to some, it’s actually one of the main mechanisms through which exercise works as well. You push your body through a stressful situation (running, lifting, etc), it repairs itself when you rest, and then you come back stronger. Very similar idea with LLLT.

Hey Yon, the main thing to look for is wavelength. Make sure the LEDs are 850nm and you should be good to go. =)

    Hey lostfalco,

I follow your protocols and tweaks since some time (since the beginning of your curated experiment blog on longecity) and took the little effort to translate your TULIP protocol for the German audience. There is not much going on over at my website, but maybe someone will find it valuable. I mentioned and credited you and put some links back to your website and to longecity.

Also, do you know of some people who got severely depressed and emotional when using the TULIP protocol? I experienced this when I increased the dose time to fast. I was a wreck when using LLLT for more than 7 minutes. I stopped and decreased and felt way better. Just a sidenote. Would be interesting what the cause of it was.

Each of those night vision illuminators (48 and 96) has a light detector that turns off or dims the LEDs when light is present. It is that little green eye disk thing. One way to inactivate it is to cover it with black tape. But some light may still get in. Even better is to remove it with needle nose pliers, wire cutters, or whatever. Just make sure that the two wire ends left are clipped off or at least not touching. This gives the effect of completely zero light. That detector is a photoresistor, which conducts electricity in light, and doesn’t conduct in dark. Removing it makes the LED board think it is in total dark, and the LEDs stay on at full brightness, even in a brightly lit environment. Also I’m not sure it’s so important to remove the glass cover. It is designed to be transparent to near infrared.

Good tip and explanation on how the light sensors can be permanently disabled.

Two good reasons to remove the glass are 1. you can get better tissue penetration by exerting a gentle force (millimeters can make a difference, especially when trying to go through thick hair) and 2. heat will dissapate instead of being trapped behind the glass cover.

I’ve found the 48 LED array to build up heat quickly even with the glass cover removed because the LED’s are closer together than the 96 array.

    1. Why exactly 9 regions and 5 spots? And where are those regions?
    2. Also, do you think safety glasses are needed? (any example glasses?)
    3. Do you just hold 96/48 led array in hand or do you attach it to some wall?

      No problem, Kreynar.
      1. The main idea is to laser your whole brain using somewhat non-overlapping spots. They can overlap a little with no problem. I found that I could pretty much cover my entire brain (excluding the forehead) with about 9 spots using the 96LED. I use the 48 on my forehead because it’s more convenient.
      2. Safety goggles are not needed with the LEDs.
      3. I plug the device into the wall and hold it in my hand. I actually press down pretty hard when I laser in order to get greater depth of penetration with the light.

      Hope that helps! =)

For the 96 LED I use a screwdriver to unscrew the front screws holding the glass in place.

For the 48 LED, the front piece can just be unscrewed by hand.

Hi, I just heard about LLLT today and am trying to learn as much as I can! I am very excited to see if it could help depression. Is there quite a bit of evidence for this in particular? Also, I am curious why we would be using the 96 AND the 48 LED if they are the same wavelength. Would using just one or the other not be as effective for some reason? Thanks!

Hey Natasha, it’s cool you’ve just learned about LLLT. =)

The main reason I listed the two devices is that the smaller one is easier to use on your forehead and the larger one is easier to use on your entire brain. If you only want to get one or the other, that’s totally cool. As you mentioned, they are both 850nm so either one will work.
